23 | 23 ELECTRONIC ORDER: Before the Court are (1) Joint Motion to Continue Time to Indict as to Defendant Maria Flores Huerta , Doc.21 , and (2) Joint Motion to Continue Time to Indict as to Defendant Erika Flores Chavez , Doc. 22 . The parties' joint motions seek an extension of the deadline to file an indictment as to each Defendant under the Speedy Trial Act. For the reasons stated in the motions, the Court finds that a continuance of the time to indict will serve the interests of justice and outweigh the public's interest in a speedy trial. 18 U.S.C. § 3161(h)(7). Accordingly, both motions, Docs. 21 & 22 , are GRANTED . The deadline for filing an indictment(s) charging Defendants Maria Flores Huerta and Erika Flores Chavez is extended to and inclusive of August 26, 2024 . The parties are placed on notice, however, that considering Defendants' custody status, no further continuance will be entertained without specific evidence supporting the necessary finding that an additional continuance of the time to indict not only will serve the interests of justice but also outweigh the public's interest in a speedy trial. (Ordered by Magistrate Judge Renée Harris Toliver on 7/12/2024) (Magistrate Judge Renée Harris Toliver) [3:24-mj-00539-BK] | |
